About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
Under the direction of the Accounts Manager, this position will play a key role in providing a range of financial and travel services to the Embassy and deliver financial support and advice to Embassy staff and other staff within Consulate-General offices.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
· Perform the role of Cashier in the Embassy’s Accounts Section, in accordance with Australian Government policy and procedures.
· Make official domestic travel bookings as required and process payments including ticket fares and travel allowance in line with departmental policies.
· Responsible for quarterly VAT refund for the Embassy and diplomats.
· Monitor outstanding advances and debts.
· Process payment requests in SAP as required. Make sure relevant staff reimbursements, supplier invoices, internal reconciliation are accurately processed within the deadline.
· Ad hoc projects and other duties as required.
Required Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge/Skills
· Capacity to use computer-based systems such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Microsoft teams.
· Experience in the use of accounting software, particularly SAP, would be an advantage.
· Demonstrated capacity to work efficiently and accurately, displaying good work-flow and time management skills.
· Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality services to clients, both within the Embassy and outside, ensuring that relevant performance benchmarks are met.
· Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively orally and in writing, in English and Mandarin.
· Demonstrated capacity to be flexible and adaptable, including in pressure situations, and to work productively in a team environment.
